Built for
Zoo Creatures is a store for everyone who loves animals. We want our website to work for everyone, too.
Our commitment
We want everyone to be able to use our website and our store, including people with disabilities. That's also what the Americans with Disabilities Act and New Hampshire's Law Against Discrimination (RSA 354-A) expect of a business open to the public.
Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, a widely used standard that the U.S. Department of Justice references in its web accessibility guidance. These guidelines explain how to make websites work for people with visual, hearing, motor and cognitive disabilities. We don't claim full conformance yet. The gaps we know about are listed below.
Measures we take
- Header, navigation, main and footer landmarks on every page, and headings in a logical order.
- A “skip to content” link as the first thing you reach with the keyboard.
- Every link, button and form control works with a keyboard and shows a visible focus ring.
- Text alternatives on meaningful photos and videos. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Labels on every field of the booking form, and error messages that screen readers announce.
- If your device is set to reduce motion, the store intro, smooth scrolling, parallax and looping videos are turned off.
- Color contrast tuned toward WCAG AA for body text and controls.
Known limitations
- The store intro animation plays once per visit. It lasts under 5 seconds, any click or key skips it, and it never plays when reduced motion is on.
- Some pages show short, silent video loops. They play only while on screen and stop when you scroll away, but most have no pause button yet. Turning on reduced motion stops them.
- The embedded Google Map and YouTube video come from Google, and we can't fully control their accessibility. Our address and directions are always written out as text.
We're working on these. If one of them gets in your way, tell us and we'll help you another way.
Other ways to get help
Nothing on this website is required to shop with us. You can call us and a staff member will tell you what's in stock, read you a care sheet, or answer a question about an animal. You can book a tour, party or show by phone instead of using the form. If you need a care sheet or policy in another format, such as large print or plain text, ask and we'll do our best to provide it.
In the store, our staff are glad to help you reach, read or carry anything. Service animals are welcome, as the ADA requires. If you need help getting in or around the store, call ahead and we'll be ready for you.
Contact us
If something on this site doesn't work for you, tell us which page and what happened. Email or call, and we'll get you the information you need and work on a fix.
